Final 2018 CIPA numbers

In case you missed my post on PhotoRumors – the final CIPA 2018 numbers are in (see also the latest financial reports recap ): Compared with 2018, DSLR shipped units were down 13% to 6.62 million Mirrorless units were up 1% to 4.14 million Compacts were down 35% to 8.66 million. Lenses for smaller than 35mm cameras were down 12% to 12.33 million Lenses for 35mm cameras were up 8% to 5.69 million. 35mm*+DSLR+mirrorless units : 2007: 8.26 million 2008: 9.7 million (+17.4%) 2009: 9.91 million (+2.2%) 2010: 12.89 million (+30.1%) 2011: 15.69 million (+21.7%) 2012: 20.16 million (+28.5%) 2013: 17.13 million (-15%) 2014: 13.84 million (-19.2%) 2015: 13.06 million (-5.6%) 2016: 11.61 million (-11.1%) 2017: 11.68 million (+0.6%) 2018: 10.76 million (-7.9%) *35mm film camera units are reported for 2007 only

Nikon’s 3rd quarter financial results are out

Today Nikon released their Q3 financial results for the year ending on March 31, 2019: “High-end camera sales was brisk thanks to the new ML launch, but fierce competitions in the shrinking entry/mid-range DSLR markets suppressed the volume largely in addition with the initial cost, resulting in revenue/profit reductions.” Here is a recap by ZoetMB: Nikon originally forecast Imaging Division Revenue of ¥320 billion and the new forecast is ¥305, down 15.44% from 2018. They forecast Earnings of ¥29 billion, raised the forecast to ¥33 billion in August and the new forecast is ¥25 , down 17.22% from 2018

Nikon announced the second year of their  Nikon Storytellers Scholarship which awards ten eligible students with $10,000: Nikon Announces The Second Year Of The Nikon Storytellers Scholarship, Reaffirming Its Commitment To Education For The Next Generation of Creators MELVILLE, NY – Nikon Inc. has announced that applications are now open for the second “Nikon Storytellers Scholarship.” The program, launched in December 2017, is designed to celebrate the power of visual storytelling by supporting the education of aspiring content creators. Beginning today, eligible students in the United States and Canada can apply for the chance to be selected as one of ten winners to receive a $10,000 USD academic scholarship to further their development as visual storytellers and help them in their passionate pursuit of compelling stories.

New Kenko Teleplus HD Pro 1.4x and 2x teleconverters for Nikon F-mount announced

Kenko announced new Teleplus HD Pro 1.4x and 2x teleconverters for Nikon F-mount (available also for Canon EF mounts). The US prices are $248 and $299 . The new Teleplus HD Pro series replaces the previous Teleplus PRO300 series and have redesigned optics with multi-layer coatings
