Lensvid interview with Nikon at Photokina (Nikon Z and more)

Lensvid published their interview with Dirk Jasper from Nikon taken during the 2018 Photokina show – their main topic of discussion was of course the new Z mirrorless (more Nikon Z interviews can be found here ): Here is a recap of the interview: Nikon wasn’t willing to state exactly when the work on the Nikon Z started (a good guess would be at least 3 or so years ago) but it did mention that the now discontinued Nikon 1 cameras were indeed the basis for at least some of the technologies we are now seeing in the Z cameras. The upcoming NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct is more of a proof of concept for Nikon to show was this mount could do in terms of image quality and speed (Jasper actually mentioned the Zeiss Otus by name here and suggested that we might see a new fast prime king with this lens). Nikon had endless discussions about changing the mount and although Jasper was not willing to openly state that the large mount was developed to support larger sensors in the future it certainly seems that way from his answer.

Some Tamron Di/Di II lenses will not work properly with the Nikon Z7, Tokina is still testing their lenses

Tamron issued a notice that some of their Di/Di II series lenses will not work properly on the Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera with the FTZ adapter. A reader did some quick testing and sent me this list: Problems: Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2  is incompatible (error: press shutter release button again) Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 has exposure problems (screen stutters between a normal and darker than normal exposure, photos seem fine) No problems noted so far: Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD Let’s start a list of Nikon Z compatible (and not-compatible) third party lenses – please add your feedback in the comments section and I will create a list. Tokina is currently testing their lenses and the results from the  Tokina 24-70mm Ff/2.8 AT-X Pro FX are optimistic: Here is the official notice from Tamron: Notice about compatibility for Nikon Z7 with Tamron lenses Dear users and potential purchasers of Tamron interchangeable lenses.

More Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens reviews

More Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens reviews: First, check this 500mm f/5.6 blog post by Bruce Leventhal (a full guest post is coming soon). “The extra stop of light afforded by the AF-S 500mm f/4E FL ED VR will appeal to some, but if you’re shooting with one of Nikon’s latest full-frame DSLRs, cranking up the ISO by a stop to achieve the same shutter speed with the AF-S 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR isn’t that big of a deal.” ( Techradar ) “When I was told the lens I was testing was a 500mm 5.6 I started to think about hitting the gym before the shoot
